Was it President Regan that referred to the Timbuk 3 song as an example of optimism? His speechwriters misunderstood Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” and I thought they had similarly missed the anti-nuclear message in “The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”. Does anyone remember this incident? There probably aren't many who remember Timbuk 3, much less a politician referring to the group.
